Wrinkles and Expression Lines

Related terms for "Wrinkles":

crow's feet, frown lines, marionette lines, lip lines, dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkkles

Skin wrinkles are caused by a number of factors, including Age, Sun Damage (UV), and other factors such as Cigarette Smoke, Air Pollution and Rapid Weight Loss.

Types of Wrinkles

Crow’s Feet

Periorbital wrinkles at the outer portion of the eyes and are the result of smiling, squinting and sundamage. Associated with smoking, age and excessive exposure to the sun. Teamine eye complex used for the puffy and dark under eye circles.  It also firms and tightens sagging, loose skin.

Frown Lines

Also Known as Glabellar folds, are wrinkle lines that develop on the forehead and between the eyebrows.

Marionette Lines

Also known as oral commisures. Deepening of the nasolabial folds causing parenthesis shaped lines encircling the mouth.

Lip Lines

Also known as Vermillion border. Vertical furrows or wrinkles encircling the mouth. Most commonly caused by pursing the lips when smoking.  Great results obtained from use of Revox by Revoxyl.

Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by the underlying facial muscles. Frown lines are an example of dynamic wrinkles.

Static Wrinkles

Static wrinkles are not

Sun Damage

Sun Damage is the most important factor in prematurely aging skin. This process, known as photoaging can begin to prematurely age skin in people as young as age 20. Sunlight contains UVA and UVB light. Both forms of UV light lower immunity against aging skin disorders and cancer.

Other Causes of Wrinkles

In addition to sunlight, other factors may hasten the formation of wrinkles:

Cigarette Smoke.
Smoking produces oxygen-free radicals, which are known to accelerate wrinkles and aging skin disorders and increase the risk for nonmelanoma skin cancers. Studies also suggest that smoking and subsequent oxidation produce higher levels of metalloproteinases, which are enzymes associated with wrinkles.

Air Pollution.
Ozone, a common air pollutant, may be a particular problem for the skin. One study reported that it might deplete the amount of vitamin E in the skin; this vitamin is an important antioxidant.

Rapid Weight Loss.
If weight loss occurs to rapidly, the volume of fat cells that cushion the face are also decreased before chemicals in the skin can react. This not only makes a person look gaunt, but can cause the skin to sag.

Natural Aging Process

All of these factors serve to speed up the natural aging process. The cells divide more slowly, and the inner layer of skin (the dermis) starts to thin. Fat cells beneath the dermis begin to atrophy (diminish). In addition, the ability of the skin to repair itself diminishes with age, so wounds are slower to heal. The thinning skin becomes vulnerable to injuries and damage.

The underlying network of elastin and collagen fibers, which provides scaffolding for the surface skin layers, loosens and unravels. Skin then loses its elasticity. When pressed, it no longer springs back to its initial position but instead sags and forms furrows.

The sweat- and oil-secreting glands atrophy, depriving the skin of their protective water-lipid emulsions. The skin's ability to retain moisture then diminishes and it becomes dry and scaly.

Frown lines (those between the eyebrows) and crow's feet (lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes) appear to develop because of permanent small muscle contractions. Habitual facial expressions also form characteristic lines.  Teamine Eye Complex and TNS Recovery Complex  work on fine lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes.  Teamine Eye Complex should be used if you have puffy and dark undereye circles; Revox should be used when you have fine lines and wrinkles only.

Gravity exacerbates the situation, contributing to the formation of jowls and drooping eyelids. (Eyebrows, surprisingly, move up as a person ages, possibly because of forehead wrinkles.)

More evenly dispersed throughout the year, and throughout the day.

Penetrates more deeply.

Affects Inner Skin Layers.

Most prominent when sun is brightest (during summer months, and at midday).

Penetrates less deeply.

Affects Outer Skin Layers.
